With a HARD rain on Saturday & a soft rain overnite , today's ride would have NO DUST & lots of WATER! After feeding our faces & warming up our quads , the five of us headed south across Rt # 61 & towards the power lines that would give us access to the SWAMP.
Our first surprise of the day was that after only a few miles outside of Frackville, Pa. , the Pa. DNR had just bought ANOTHER section of this once unobstructed & free range riding turf! NOT what you want to see , so early in the morning! BUT Speedy knows more than one way to get to the SWAMP , so we back track & cross I-81 & head south towards our tunnel that leads us underneath I-81 & our playground that is FULL of big deep mud holes & PLENTY of watery playgrounds to frolic in & test our 4x4's to the MAX!!! LOL!!!
Lee's Tecate is NOT an ideal mud running machine & follows in the Grizzly's wake as we navigate the deep water that is within the confines of the tunnel under I-81 & manages to churn its way to the far side where MORE deep water greets this antique sport quad. HE! HE!
After slogging our way through numerous deep & nasty muck filled pits & assisting the Tecate when needed , we exit the deepest sections & hit a few dry sections. Just as we are about to enter another watery section I catch movement out of the corner of my eye! As my eyes readjust to the darkness , I see a large black form bounding into the fringes of the SWAMP!!!! Its a big fat BLACK BEAR cub!!!!!!! I holler out " BEAR" , " BEAR " look a " BEAR" !!!!!!!! As I scream , the bear cub stops to see WHAT is making all this noise???? Joe, Brian & Chris get the pleasure of seeing the bear cub before it scampers into the dark underbrush! Mother is probably lurking nearby, so we HAUL ASS in the oppisite direction!!!!
