| FAMILY RIDE ! | ||||||||||||
| Hi folks, My AARP body is a little sluggish early AM Sunday after not getting to bed until after midnite Saturday. BUT I am excited & before long I'm zipping around like a sixteen year old getting ready for a first date! LOL! HOW MANY would disregard the weatherman's doom & gloom forecast & be across the road???????? With that thought in mind I fire up the Speedball Express & head over to the back parking lot to greet my fellow Speedball's . The weatherman is NOT predicting a very nice day for Sunday's FAMILY ride , so I am flabbergasted to see MORE riders show up for Sunday's ride than our normal Saturday Speedball run across the Pa. mountains! THIRTEEN! WOW! What a PLEASANT SURPRISE! With the ominous signs of rain in the skies , most of us don our rainsuits before heading out across the mountains. The pace is modest, as this is a FAMILY ride with wives & youngsters aboard SMALL mini quads & skills levels pretty sketchy at best among a few folks. After the first few miles , things pick up to a reasonable pace with Yorkie & Jim BUZZING around like a couple of bumble bees ! LOL! Our first stop is the soft coal banks where Yorkie & Jim blast up & down coal bank after coal bank as the newcomers watched in amazement at WHAT these atv's can do! After letting the youngsters rid themselves of their beans ,it was off towards the Pottsville resevoirs ,to cruise up & down some easy but rocky trails . Not too long after entering the watershed of the resevoirs, Yorkie's Yamaha Three wheeler suffers a terminal failure & must be towed back to Motel 6. Brian volunteers to be the rescue vehicle . So after bidding Yorkie farewell & a safe trip back to New York, I lead the others across the mountains towards Pottsville, Pa. & arrange to meet Brian later along the trail & then off to Shenandoah to let them see some REAL coal banks ! LOL! Later that morning , we link up with Brian & buzz across the mountains to Shenandoah & it's assortment of massive coal banks & our new comers are amazed at WHAT they see! The LITTLE guy on the mini Susuki heads for the BIGGEST coal bank & EVERYONE rushes to STOP him!!!!!! WHOA!!!!!!!!!!!!! The little guy has NO FEAR!!!!!!!!! LMAO! Even Tammy on a 250 Honda Recon zooms up a coal bank TOO BIG & STEEP for such an underpowered quad ! DANG! My eyes get REAL BIG as she starts up the coal bank before I can wave her off! The end result is WHAT I expected! Tammy & Honda are now stuck two thirds of the way up & need rescued! Tammy holds on for dear life as we run to her rescue! I KNOW her AS- is puckered up! LOL! After a few failed rescue attempts by 4x4's we turn the little quad around & send her back from where she came! HE! HE! It's getting late for a Sunday ride , so BEFORE these two youngsters decide to attempt the IMPOSSIBLE AGAIN , I head our merry group back across the mountains towards Frackville, Pa. The ride back is uneventful EXCEPT that our littlest atv rider once again attempts a hill too steep for his small quad! LOL! NO FEAR in this kid! NONE! Once back at Motel 6 , I thank everyone for a GREAT DAY & wish them a safe trip home! Speedy had a WONDERFUL weekend with some WONDERFUL folks & can't wait to do it again! Hope you enjoy the photos that I captured of you & your freinds on this atv Great Adventure in the Pa. mountains! Your AARP atv buddy! SPEEDY RACER |
