Speedball's  first Spring ride!
Speedy is awakened by the squeal of his alarm clock & my AARP body realizes it's time to fire up the Speedball Express & head north to Frackville , Pa. for our first Spring ride of 2004. Been a month and a half since the Grizzly & myself have rattled across the mountains of Pa. & the first time in a LONG time SNOW hasn't covered the mountains. Should be some FAST & HARD riding today ! YEHAAAAAAAAAAAA !
After giving the human chain saw    ( snoring wife ) a kiss & hug & receiving a few wet good-bye licks from my canine companions, the Speedball Express & I head north towards Pa. & another Great Adventure with my fellow Speedball's.

The trip goes by fast & within a few hours I'm seated at Granny's woofing down some hot grub & shooting the sh-t with a few fellow club members. While I was in Florida racing the GNCC in the Florida swamps & Georgia's slick clay & blasting across Ocala National Forest for a whole week , Mike Yucha , Chris & a few others did some more exploration & discovered MORE new trails. As I woofed down my hearty breakfeast , Chris was more than happy to give us a brief account of where the new trails go & how they found them & the  play by play accounts of some of their misadventures that occurred throughout the days . LOL!

By  8:30am  thirteen Speedball's were assembled in the parking lot & READY to see these new found trails ! Once again our group included some regulars ,  plus a few new folks who had heard about the Speedball's & wanted to see IF we were for REAL or NOT??????? HA! HA! Would they be in for a SURPRISE!!!!! LMAO!

After introductions & ALOT of bullsh-tting the Speedball's headed out to see first hand the NEW trails & WHERE they would take us during the course of the day. With Mike Yucha leading the way the Speedball's began to jockey for trail position as soon as we hit the first open section of trails ! YEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!

We made pretty good time , BUT the new rider on a Honda 450R was having problems adapting to the 450R Honda & stalled from time to time ( kick starter DID NOT start on the first kick )  & fell behind more than a few times the first hour or so. As the day went on he got better & better at maintaining our Speedball pace.

Parts of the new trail were extremely rugged & technical & took their tool on tires & rims throughout the day. But everyone managed to successfully navigate all the obstacles that faced us during the next ten hours or so as we traversed across mountain after mountain. The front pack banged bars pretty hard all day long as almost each  turn & twist in the road was hotly contested! LOL!  Sometimes an unfortunate quad & rider was sent off into the brush or trees by an overzealous rider NOT wanting to relinquish that cherished  front pack position! LMAO!

Between Speedball runs through twisty & tight trails & WIDE OPEN 5th gear sections & through boulder infested ravines  , we stopped at a few hill climb areas & let the youngsters buzz up & down some HUGE coal banks near Treverton. By the time we rattled back into Frackville, Pa. in the fading daylight at the end of the day,  we had logged 112 miles & EVERYONE was TIRED , butt cheeks tender & READY for that HOT shower ! YEHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA ! What a GRAND DAY! The new folks NOW know we are for real  & thanked us for a GRAND time ! After saying good-bye to everyone , I retreated to my room to soak my AARP bones in some HOT water & then head off to Cracker Barrel to feed my face. Sunday morning would see a second group of Speedball's would arrive all bright eyed & bushy tailed & READY to ride ,  so not long after feeding my face , I let the  Sand Man perform his majic & ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ's filled room # 30 .
GOODNITE!!!!!!! Your AARP atv buddy!
